As an independent fashion designer or a business hopeful, this book is a great resource. Unlike the other books already available, this book gives details on how to cost, price and budget a small fashion business. It will even show you how to find out when you break even.

I may be biased since I wrote the book, but as a college fashion instructor and a designer, I pinpointed the areas that are commonly overlooked, yet oh so important. Definitely a book to keep for reference.

If you like our book, you may like our computer software even more. I have developed the entire finance section of the book into a software program for ease. You can read more about the book, the author and the program at http://www.eastbayfashionresource.com

While this book wasn’t awful, I felt it lacked in most areas.

Chapters are extremely short, with very little text spread out on large pages that don’t seem to really get into the how, or why of the topics covered.

I felt the author only touched on each subject, and didn’t really explain them thoroughly.

It wasn’t a bad book, but it definitely isn’t substantial enough to read on its own.

This is a must read for anyone considering starting out in “the business”. The experiences, lessons and amazing list of resources the author generously shares is priceless.

As a seasoned operations manager (not in the fashion industry) I found the business ops guidelines better explained than most of the “stuffy” guides I’ve painstakingly read to their bitter ends.

The author successfully provides a clear and comprehensive road map for the beginner- from introducing and coaching the reader through the initial creative briefs, costing merchandise, to the realities of having and how to plan an exit strategy.

Jennifer Lynne has done an excellent job simplifying all the imperative processes and details that would help one establish their fashion label and business. I have this book and I found it very helpful and full of practical tips. I love how she has included worksheets for costing, pricing, branding, NDAs, financial projections, press releases… taking all the perplexity away.
